PIENINY by UTMB is more than a trail running event. It is an invitation to discover a unique region of Poland, where mountain adventure meets spectacular nature, rich history, authentic local culture and a strong sense of community.

A UNIQUE MOUNTAIN SETTING IN HISTORIC MOUNTAIN SPA TOWN

Located in one of the most picturesque regions of southern Poland, PIENINY by UTMB showcases the landscapes of the Pieniny, Beskid Sądecki and Gorce Mountains, offering diverse terrain, beautiful mountain panoramas, forest trails and open mountain meadows.

The event takes place in a destination with a rich spa tradition and a long history of mountain tourism, combining sporting adventure with the distinctive atmosphere and heritage of a traditional Polish mountain town.

AUTHENTIC MOUNTAIN CULTURE AND LOCAL ROOTS

The event is deeply connected to the character of the region, where highlander traditions, regional cuisine, local hospitality and a strong bond with the mountains create an authentic Central European experience.

Diverse trails and challenges for everyone – a variety of distances and difficulty levels welcomes both newcomers and experienced ultra-runners, offering different ways to challenge themselves and discover the beauty of the mountains. From 6.8 km vertical, up to 137 km ultra journey.

Compassion, community and respect for nature – PIENINY by UTMB brings people together through empathy, kindness and solidarity, turning a shared passion for running into meaningful action through charitable initiatives, fundraising and support for people in need. At the same time, we believe in respecting and protecting the mountains we love through responsible trail use, waste reduction and care for the natural environment, helping preserve this unique landscape for future generations.

More than a race – a community that makes it happen

PIENINY by UTMB is built on the incredible spirit of the Polish trail running community, known for its passion, solidarity and willingness to support one another. What truly makes the event special, however, is its deep connection with Szczawnica itself. It feels as though there is hardly a family in town that is not involved in organising or supporting the event in some way. From volunteers and local businesses to residents and their families, the whole town comes together to make it happen. PIENINY by UTMB is not just a race hosted in Szczawnica – it is our shared event, created with heart and pride by the people who call this place home.
