Mandatory equipment
WHY IS MANDATORY EQUIPMENT REQUIRED ?
Your safety is our main priority. For this reason, we have established a list of mandatory equipment to ensure every runner is prepared to face the challenges of the mountain terrain and the changing weather conditions. This section provides all the details about the essential items you must carry during the race, along with recommendations to ensure a safe and rewarding experience. The weather in April might be totally different from one year to another. You may encounter 25 deg. C during the day as well as 0 deg. C at night.

CLIMATE
At the end of April, the Pieniny, Beskid Sądecki, and Gorce mountains experience an early-spring climate, characterized by high variability and significant weather contrasts. In recent years, the turn of April and May in this part of the mountains has served as a transitional period: while the valleys often see near-summer temperatures, the highest peaks of the mountains may still hold remnants of winter or experience sudden, short-lived winter-like conditions.
WEATHER
Average temperatures (day and night) Thermal conditions vary significantly depending on altitude:
In the valleys:
- During the day: an average of 13°C – 18°C. On clear, high-pressure days, temperatures can reach as high as 20°C – 22°C.
- At night: an average of 4°C – 8°C. However, under clear skies, ground frosts (ranging from -2°C to 0°C) are common.
On the summits:
- During the day: an average of 6°C – 11°C.
- At night: an average of -2°C – 3°C.
SHOULD YOU EXPECT SNOW?
Małe Pieniny (Little Pieniny) Due to their lower elevation (reaching a maximum of 1,050 m a.s.l.) and the sun-exposed limestone rock formations, there is generally no longer any persistent snow cover by the end of April.
Gorce and Beskid Sądecki (above 1,000 m a.s.l.): In the highest parts of these mountain ranges, the situation is somewhat different. The end of April can bring a variety of conditions:
Old snow: On northern slopes, in dense spruce forests, and along shaded sections of trails (such as those near Radziejowa), patches of icy, compacted snow or slushy snow remnants persist almost every year.
New snow (winter-like episodes): During this period, brief incursions of arctic air are not uncommon. In recent years, there have been instances where 5 to 15 cm of fresh snow fell in the Gorce and Beskid Sądecki mountains toward the end of April; however, this snow typically melted quite rapidly, usually within 2–3 days.
